Okay, here’s a scenario. After reading reviews of different iPad apps, you finally zero on the one that you like. The best part about it is it’s free so eagerly you go to the App Store, type its name in Search but only to come up with zero results. You know the app exists and you know you got the right name so why is it not showing up?
If you encounter this chances are you are not living in US soil. Unfortunately, some iPad apps are available for US based accounts only and even if the app is free you won’t be able to download it.
It happened to me last night. I was looking for the ultimate family planner for my iPad and I found one. Cozi is the online organizer that has got the seal of approval by FlyLady so naturally I wanted that. Checking their website I was delighted that they now have an iPhone and iPad app and the best part was it’s free.
Fortunately, even if you’re living outside the US you can still download a free US-only apps by using a workaround.
Here’s what you have to do. Create a brand new Apple ID and choose “None” as your payment option. Remember if you already have an existing Apple Id then chances are you have added your non-US address and credit card information because the system has prompted you to do so when you registered. There is no way of removing that except to create a new one.
