Healthy Sugarcane Juice at Cane Twist
It was last Sunday again and as usual before going home hubby and Z passed by Toy Kingdom to ogle at toys. That is normally my cue to do things I like looking at books at the nearby bookstores or do errands like looking for term life insurance quotes that we badly needed. On my way though I got sidetracked when this caught my eye:

I don’t know if this store has been standing here for a long. For some reason I didn’t notice it until last Sunday. Wondering what they are doing with the sugarcane? They put it inside this machine and squeeze it.

Then voila – freshly squeezed sugarcane juice.

Nope, I didn’t try it but after reading the health benefits from their site I might try it next time I pass by.
- Rich in carbohydrates
- Less calories than refined sugar or syrup
- Low glycemic index
- Reduces low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol level
- Provides energy and strength
- High in potassium, magnesium, calcium, and riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
- Contains antioxidants
- Keeps body hydrated
- Alleviates sore throat
- Prevents cold and flu
- Has wound healing properties
- Stimulates the immune system
- Has positive activity against breast and prostate cancer cells
- Produces gradual rise in blood sugar and insulin levels
- Good for digestion
- Strengthens the eyes, brain, heart, stomach, liver and sex organs
- Hastens recovery from jaundice
- Keeps urinary flow clear and helps the kidney to function properly
- Replaces protein loss from febrile episodes
Diabetics need not worry. Fresh, raw sugar cane juice does not only produce gradual rise in blood sugar and insulin levels, but it can also improve lipid levels among diabetics.
Weight – conscious, calorie counters need not feel guilty. Aside from having lesser calories than refined sugar and syrup, all – natural sugar cane juice extract contributes to weight management by controlling appetite and delaying hunger.
This was taken at SM Megamall but according to their multiply site they also have branches at SM Las Pinas, SM San Lazaro, and SM North Edsa.
Wishing for Rain

Normally, whenever I see this in the sky I sigh and wish there would be no rain for the day. Rain disrupts people’s day and can pretty much ruin it. Especially for people who are commuters and didn’t bring their umbrellas that particular day a pouring of the rain can result to drenched clothes and the change inweather can even result to sickness. Yes, we usually take rain for granted and would wish it away most of the time.
Nowadays though we would gladly give anything to have the rain back, now that the news is filled with reports on how critical the dam levels already are which seems to be the trigger for the water companies and the electric companies to announce that they would be increasing their prices. As if to prove their point, they have already cut off water and electricity at some areas.
That’s why in this part of the world people are wishing for the rain to fall. It doesn’t matter if they forgot their umbrellas that day and it doesn’t matter if the hot then cold weather will make them sick. We really need water and it’s more obvious now than ever before.
Kultura Filipino
I was waiting for Daddy and Z to come out of Wendy’s after lunch when I heard some merry folk music. When I turned around this is what I saw.

The salesladies were dancing! The best part is they seem to be having fun. Their dancing was contagious I tell you. It brought me back to my childhood. We used to dance folk dances just like that. At some point I really wanted to drop my things and join them.

While people stopped by and watched I whipped my camera phone and started taking pictures, of course. I can’t let you miss it, can I? So any idea where this was taken from?

I got to tell you that their gimmick was really effective. It took all my self restraint to go in there and buy something.
Goodbye Kinder
We’re on the last stretch of our Kinder year. All the school work’s finished and we’re just eagerly waiting for the results of the final examinations. This week is practice week for the recognition. The actual recognition is inside a mall which is a relief because I’m not sure we’ll be able to bear this heat if we do it somewhere without aircon. Of course, there’ll be an added fee of P300 but I’d rather than have our sweaty faces preserved in eternity in pictures later.
So what have Z learned during Kinder?
- He learned to write his name but still not writing his surname.
- He learned to interact with a lot of children, a far cry from being at home surrounded with adults only.
- He learned to count from 1 to 100.
- He learned to add and subtract.
- He learned to read better – although I think I was the one who really taught him to read.
- He learned to take a test.
- Last but not the least, he learned to make friends.
I’m so happy I enrolled him there instead of homeschooling him like I previously planned. If our plans push through we’ll still be enrolling him in the same small school inside our village and then by the time he hits six I’m going to let him take the entrance exam at UPIS. I’m just curious if he’ll pass or not it’s a bit far from our place so we would have to relocate if by some chance he passes and we’ll decide to enroll him there.
Featured at Monster Radio

Allow me to brag a little bit. Hubby and Z’s video got featured at Monster Radio RX 93.1′s website! Yipee! I took a screenshot for posterity’s sake. In the video hubby was playing Bold as Love while Z was being his cute ol’ self. Hubby didn’t want to include Z in the video at first but Z promised he would be a good boy and wouldn’t interrupt Daddy. Good boy lived true to his promise but did something better. He posed adorably for the camera and now it’s gotten them featured!
Please do check it out at rx931.com. I guarantee it will be worth your time.
Leap Year Movie

Every person has their own problems. For me it’s keeping things balanced at home, for some it’s as serious as weight loss surgery, but for Anna (Amy Adams) it’s waiting for her boyfriend of four years to finally propose to her. So when she heard of the Irish tradition that women were allowed to propose on February 29th she decided to take matters in her own hands. She decided to follow her boyfriend, Jeremy, who’s in Dublin for a conference and ask for his hand in marriage.
But things weren’t going as planned. First, her plane had to be rerouted because of a storm. Unnerved she set off on a boat only to face the storm head on. She was dropped in a small, sleepy town in Ireland where she enlisted the help of an innkeeper, Declan (Matthew Goode), to take her to Dublin. Along the way they bickered with one another as they encountered a series of mishaps that seems to prevent Anna from seeing her beau. Until they finally found themselves falling with each other just as her boyfriend surprised her with a proposal upon reaching him in Dublin.
Would Anna choose what seems like a fairytale life ahead with her cardiologist boyfriend or would she choose a simple life with the Irish innkeeper whom she just spent a few days with? I don’t want to accuse of spoiling so I’m not going to tell. The storyline is not that original but it sure can entertain you on a boring day.
Jollibee 39ers – Beef Mushroom

- Beef Mushroom from Jollibee
We went to Jollibee right after Z’s school program. I wanted to try something new and was delighted to see this Jollibee Beef Mushroom. I can’t believe they’re selling it for on P39.00 so I quickly ordered it to see if it will pass my taste test.
The verdict – it passed with flying colors! I was really surprised there were real beef in there. I thought it would mostly be mushrooms but no – for a measly P39.00 I got enough serving of beef fit for a merienda. The toasted garlic toppings complemented the beef and mushroom well. It’s really a good meal for the budget conscious.
P.S. You can get the Jollibee 39ers during the weekdays only.
